The urban population plays an important role in helping India become the 3rd largest economy in the world by 2050. To meet this goal, the Government of India introduced the National Urban Transport Policy 2006 to ensure safe, affordable, quick, comfortable, reliable and sustainable access for city residents to jobs, education, recreation and more. The policy considers two modes of transportation, private and public, in urban areas covering Mass Rapid Transit Systems including Busways and Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) and various modes of Urban Rail Transit like Light Rail Transit (LRT), Tramways, Monorail, Suburban Rail, and Metro Rail.

Drinking water

India has access to only about 4% of the world’s freshwater reserves and is currently facing a severe water challenge, despite being a fast developing and the second most populous country in the world. Ensuring water security is a high priority for the Government of India, with both the Central and State Governments investing in large scale drinking water projects in the country to meet the requirement.

• For the Government of Telangana (GOT), SBICAPS provided debt advisory services towards debt of INR 33000 crore sanctioned for Telangana Drinking Water Supply Corporation Ltd, a GOT subsidiary implementing “Mission Bhagiratha”, a large scale drinking water supply project.
